atlas leo iftach our birth story

i would love to document & share our birth story of baby atlas while it’s fresh in my memory so i can cherish the little details forever, as it was one of the most insane days of my life! my due date of 10/1 had come & gone and i felt no signs that he was coming anytime soon. i was anxious about feeling contractions and going into labor but tried to keep calm and enjoy the last few days just me and dek and my family. my mom and i had been meeting for breakfast every friday for the last few months and that week was going to be no different, except that she needed to meet on thursday instead of friday because she had a repair-man coming to fix something at her house friday, so we planned to meet for breakfast at yolk on thursday (10/4) morning at 7 am.

i showered the night before (wednesday evening) but didn’t wash my hair, i wanted onnneee more day with my amazing birthday blowout from drybar, which i had gotten done on friday for my bday (i reeaallly made it last!) and went to bed around 11 or so. i was used to getting up to pee several times in the middle of the night, but that night i was woken by a gush of fluids coming out of me…while i was still laying in bed. i knew it wasn’t pee so i shot up and ran to the bathroom and yelled to dekel “dek! i think my water just broke!” i sat on the toilet shaking and crying because i was so scared for what was to come. he hugged me in a foggy state from being frantically woken up & told me that everything was going to be ok and that he would start packing the car with the hospital bags. my doctor told us if my water broke to come in immediately but it was 4:09 am & her office was obviously closed so we would need to go to the emergency room to check my dilation.

after the initial shock of my water breaking, i was weirdly calm. i was not feeling any contractions & was not in any pain so i took my time getting ready to go to the hospital. i swiped on some mascara and bronzer, ate cereal, folded laundry and loved on peanut, our pup. dek packed the car, made coffee & took out the trash. we left the house around 5:15 and on the way there i was in disbelief that we would soon meet our son. the drive to the hospital only took 5 minutes since we live so close and it was so early. we checked into the ER, sat down in the empty waiting room & just waited while holding hands. they finally called us back & put us in a room, had me change into a hospital gown (which i put on backward- ha!), asked me a million questions, checked my vital signs and had the doctor on duty come in to check how dilated i was and to confirm that my water did actually break. she confirmed that i was dilated to 3 cm and that we weren’t going to be going back home that morning and that we would be sent up to labor & delivery to start receiving pitocin, which is a synthetic version of oxytocin that acts to “kickstart” contractions & get labor going. they put an IV into my wrist vein in preparation for the fluids and drugs i would be receiving later on and immediately a rush of fear came back over me. while alone in the room waiting for the wheelchair to whisk me upstairs i cried again to dek who hugged me & held me close.

we got up to labor & delivery and once we rolled into that room where i would give birth it all became SO real! i looked at the clock and it was already 7:30, like where had time gone?! i went to the bathroom before laying on the delivery bed because i was terrified i would poop during delivery and wanted to try to avoid that at all costs. once on the delivery bed they hooked me up to a machine so they could monitor my blood pressure, baby’s heart rate & my contractions. i started feeling crampy but the pain wasn’t that bad at this point so i just tried to lay there and relax and wait, breathing softly through the cramps that would come in waves. at around 8:30 or 9 my mom and sister showed up and were in the room with us and my contractions were getting stronger & stronger and i was uncomfortable. at this point they checked me and i was only dilated to 4 cm so i wasn’t even in “active labor” yet & just needed to keep having contractions to move the baby down the birth canal. the nurses hooked me up with some drug to my IV to mask the pain i was feeling until the anesthesiologist was free and could come to give me an epidural. the pain drug made me feel drunk and i remember one of the nurses talking to me and my eyes kept wanting to cross and my brain being foggy, but it did help with the pain. they kept adjusting my pitocin levels and made sure i was getting fluids so there would be no delay for the epidural. the anesthesiologist came in around 10:30 and gave me the epidural which i was so worried would be painful, but i only felt a prick. along with the epidural they needed to insert a catheter since i wouldn’t be able to get up to pee until hours after birth. after getting the epidural i felt immediate relief from the cramping but after a few hours of laboring i felt intense pressure down below (not necessarily pain, but intense pressure like i had to poop) and i remember thinking to myself “my body wants to push” but the nurse needed to check me again to be sure i was actually ready to start pushing.

lunchtime had come and gone and while i couldn’t eat anything, my mom, sister & dekel had gotten food to eat in the room and fed me some ice chips. i mostly tried to sleep, relax and concentrate on breathing and i remember my eyes were closed most of the time and just feeling “out of it.” it’s now about 3 pm and after being checked to see how dilated i was the nurse said i was a +2 (whatever that means!) and that it was go time! i was terrified but felt brave & ready at the same time. she told me that during each contraction (we could see when i was having one on the screen but i could also slightly feel them) i would push for 10 seconds and then rest and wait for the next one to push as hard as i can again. she touched me inside so i knew where to push to because it’s a certain kind of pushing you have to do, like in a certain spot you focus on to actually move the baby down. so the pushing process began and it was hard fucking work! an hour or so went by and she finally called for my doctor to come in for delivery, which made me feel like he was close to coming out. everyone was telling me they could see his head and his hair, which was so cool but really freaked me out! with every contraction i was pushing as hard as i could but towards the end i was getting frustrated, i felt like i was using up all my effort and i was afraid that when i stopped pushing he was getting sucked back up and that all the hard work i did in those 10 seconds was reverting, so i just wanted to keep pushing. i remember feeling my doctor stretching me out with her fingers, like going in circular motions inside me and that hurt like hell! my sister said the doctor even used dial soap to lube me up so he would come out easier! after pushing for what seemed like forever i even thought to myself “i just want to stop pushing and maybe he’ll just stay inside of me” – ha! i secretly wanted them to pull him out by his head because i was getting so discouraged that it was taking so long and i was getting so tired. what kept me going was my cheerleading squad. my husband, sister & mom who i am so thankful were all there with me. my sister was by my side fanning me and holding my hair up from my neck because i was getting so hot & bothered. dek was holding one of my legs and kept telling me i was doing great. and my mom was an emotional wreck on the other side of me just crying, which was so sweet. the nurses (i swear at this point there were like 10 people in the room!) even held my hands to pull me up to push harder because my arms were getting tired of lifting myself up. they kept telling me to pull my body up to try to see him coming out, but i didn’t really want to see that. i just wanted to feel the relief of him coming out. at 4:51 it happened. he slithered out. that’s the only way i can describe the relief feeling, it felt like a giant floppy thing just came out and i remember seeing the nurses cleaning him off a bit and my doctor holding him to get him to cry and after a few seconds they placed him on my chest and i just laid there with my eyes closed feeling him on me. i just held him tight and couldn’t believe i did it.

i tore during delivery so my doctor needed to stitch me up. the baby on my chest was a good distraction but i could still feel tugging down there so i told the doctor and they released more epidural drugs so i would become number while she stitched me up. i also still needed to deliver the placenta, which in my case didn’t come out. my doctor had to go inside of me elbow-deep to pull it out…twice! that part was soooo painful and i was so relieved when she was done and everyone left the room for me to rest with baby and family. we spent 2 nights at the hospital in a private recovery room which passed in a groggy, but blissful daze of baby snuggles and sleepless nights. i started breastfeeding with the help & guidance of sweet lactation consultants. it was so painful at first, it literally felt like my nipples were being chopped up in a blender but it’s since gotten so much better and it’s not painful anymore. i was taken care of by the sweet staff who brought in lots of pain meds, helped me go to the bathroom, etc. dek would help me walk around the recovery wing and my mom & sister came to visit and hold him so we could nap during the day or so dek could go home to feed our dogs. i was nervous to go home but also ready to start our life with baby atlas and figure things out for ourselves.

week 40 pregnancy bumpdate

today is my official due date for this baby boy of ours & i am feeling NO signs of labor or readiness from him. (you can find previous bumpdates here to see my belly progression!) i will get a slight cramp & think to myself “is this a contraction” or feel something and be like “was that my water breaking” ….but, no. nothin. nada. he sure does seem comfortable & cozy in there and it might be days or another whole week before he decides to descend down the birth canal! it’s funny that as awkward, large & uncomfortable as i feel, i’ve gotten more compliments from strangers than ever throughout this whole pregnancy and it puts a smile on my face. i will be out and people will tell me i “look adorable” or compliment what i’m wearing and it’s so nice to hear! i’m really so swollen, puffy and heavy, but we are so ready to meet this little guy its nuts. i’m just working from home at this point, trying to keep my feet elevated and my spirits high and not think about how/when labor will happen and go with the flow. we have our 40-week doc appointment tomorrow where they will do an ultrasound to see his size & let me know if they think it’s the right time to induce me, so i’ll keep you posted!

these photos are from our family lunch outing yesterday. we went to maggiano’s at northpark & it was delightful to enjoy pasta with some of my favorite peeps and then indulge in 2 slices of my favorite birthday cake of all time that my mom brought for us to have there, which is baskin robins snickers ice cream cake – yum! right after lunch dekel surprised me & took me to the apple store to upgrade my phone to the new iphone x, which i am LOVING! we had been on the fence about when to upgrade and to which phone, but with baby coming he knew i would want to do it sooner than later so we bit the bullet and went for it. it was such a sweet gesture, so thankful for him and for everyone who helped make my last birthday sans baby a special one. i really felt all the love!

dekel & i went to maui, hawaii for our “babymoon” back in may, when i was 22 weeks preggers & we had an ahhmmmaaaazing time. we were there from 5/31 – 6/4 so we had 4 nights and ~5 days to explore the island. i’d love to share where we stayed, what we did & where we ate if you would like to see!

we decided to stay in weilea beach area, as a friend had just been there and recommended it (shout out to ashley!) and also we found this incredible resort & decided it would be totally worth the “splurge.” we are normally airBNB people, but this was a trip we wanted to feel pampered, have our room cleaned daily, enjoy the infinity pool and have a beautiful beach within walking distance. we only booked one activity (snorkeling & swimming with sea turtles!) and made two restaurant reservations before we arrived because we wanted to leave a lot of room for impromptu activities and places to try on a whim and i wouldn’t have done it any other way. we rented a car to pick up at the airport so we could just take off and go upon arrival and i would highly recommend that for convenience.

day 1

do: grab our rental car, check in at the fabulous weilea beach resort, change & head to dinner

eat: dinner- the mill house

we arrived around 2 pm to maui, picked up our rental car & drove ~30 min to our resort. we checked in & were greeted with “welcome drinks” and leis, picked our jaws up off the floor because the resort and scenery were THAT stunning, had our bags brought up to our room, showered & cleaned up from a long travel day, changed & headed out to an early dinner at the mill house to catch the sunset. i can’t express how much we loved the resort we stayed at. from the moment we stepped foot on the property we fell in love and knew this was going to be a magical, special trip. like i said, it was a splurge per night but sooooo worth it! the grounds were pristine, there were hammocks and swings and rocking chairs to chill on, different pools to lay out by, a beach within walking distance and top notch friendly staff. we felt like royalty staying here!

day 2

do: snorkeling with sea turtles, lounge by the serenity infinity pool (which is adults only and wonderful) at our resort & go out for dinner

eat: breakfast- buffet on the snorkel boat, lunch- pizza madness, dinner- monkeypod

a snorkeling adventure! we had this planned for bright & early the morning after we arrived, which was friday. we booked this prior to our arrival through this company called lani kai and were to check-in at the boating dock at 6:45 am. we booked the trip that would take us to molokini reef to snorkel & then to “turtle town” to snorkel and swim with sea turtles, which i was SO excited about! this was a really fun adventure but something tragic & disturbing happened while we were on the boat headed to the first stop of the trip, molokini which i feel the need to write about if only to bring awareness that accidents happen and to try to always be as safe as possible. this incident was so unfortunate & scary to witness, but probably could have been avoidable.

all passengers boarded the double-decker boat and breakfast of powdered sugar donuts, bagels & fruit was served. people were sitting/standing around drinking their coffee and chatting and the boat took off toward molokini which was about an hour or so away from the dock. dekel & i sat at the back of the boat on the bottom floor because the stairs to go on the upper level were soooo steep and i thought i would get sea-sick up there, so we sat at the back of the boat on a bench by the stairs to go up, which i can’t express how steep they were! about half way there the crew was walking around asking if people wanted to wear wetsuits because the water was chilly and we might be more comfortable this way and dek & i both wanted one, so we got suited up and took some photos (proof below!) and then as we were approaching molokini reef the water started getting really choppy and rough & the captain announced to stay seated and hold on to the boat rails. dek & i were seated in our spot at the bottom of the steep stairs when out the corner of my eye i see an older woman start to try to descend the stairs. she was holding on to the rail as she was coming down, but a wave crashed into the boat and she fell to the bottom, at our feet, literally almost on me, and just laid there not moving. this all happened so fast and everyone saw/heard what happened. the crew immediatly stopped the boat, rushed to bring her ice, left her laying still as to not move her neck because she fell right on her head and it could have been broken! there was no gushing blood that we saw, but i was so shaken i thought i witnessed death, it was so scary to see. the lady had family with her and after a few minutes paramedics (aka coast guard) were called and came to meet us from a different boat because she needed to go to the emergency room. but they had to cut off her wetsuit and get her on a stretcher and transfer her over to the other boat so we could keep going on our snorkel trip. we were shaken for the rest of the trip and day because of this. i don’t know why the lady tried to come downstairs right after the announcement to stay seated, but i just kept hugging dekel so thankful that this didn’t happen to one of us or someone we know. maybe it was all the preggers emotions, but it was super scary to witness and made me want to do a PSA to be careful out there!

ok, now back to day 2….swimming with the sea turtles was one of the most incredible experiences i’ve ever had- we both agreed it was SO cool and were so glad we did it. we were so close to them, swimming in their element. they would skim and “sleep” down on the sea floor and then come up for little breaths, it was insane to witness these guys so close up. they were not afraid of humans one bit, they’re protected animals so you obviously can’t touch them, but they would swim so close to you that you had to back-paddle to keep from grazing their arms or backs. my favorite thing to do for the hour we had was following them around and just witnessing them, they were massive! after snorkeling, we were all wrinkly, cold and tired and hungry! we got back on the boat and back to land and were in search of lunch so we stopped at pizza madness, which was a place one of my fav bloggers, kathleen barnes, recommended here. it was such good pizza, i didn’t get a photo of it because we ate it so fast- ha! after lunch we went to lay out by the pool and sip some frozen drinks and relax. we loved the infinity pool at our resort, it was a “serenity zone” so no kids were allowed, no floats were allowed in the pool to block the view and waiters would walk by bringing you fresh cucumber water every so often. it was heavenly. we passed some hours in the sun and then went to wash up and change for our dinner reservation at monkeypod, which is a restaurant that kept popping up in searches when i was researching where to eat in maui. they have a location in weilea beach so the drive was like 2 minutes from us and the food was fresh, vibes were good. all in all we loved it!

day 3

do: road to hana

eat: breakfast- starbucks coffee & cheese danish, lunch- burrito bowls from a hut along the road to hana with ice cream for dessert (not to mention snack stops along the way, like banana bread!), dinner- longhi’s italian seafood & ice cream for dessert from lappert’s

we heard all about this “road to hana” adventure and wanted to do & see it for ourselves! we read it was best to take off early to not get stuck behind cars on the narrow, almost one-way road and that the drive would be very scenic with many fun little stops along the way. you’re basically driving around half the island in the northern region & then you turn around once you get to hana & make your way back before sunsets because navigating that narrow road in the dark would have been scary as hell! we took off from weilea around 6:30 AM and headed toward paia and from there you are officially on the “road to hana” – we downloaded this app because on the trip (which can take 10+ hours!) you don’t get good cell phone reception and the app was a lifesaver and super helpful in knowing when stops were coming up and determining which ones were even worth stopping for. the trip takes so long to complete, not because the island is so large, but because the road is soooo narrow and twisty/turny that you basically have to drive 5-10 mph the whole time, sometimes completely stopping when cars are coming the opposite way. there was even a large branch that was hanging down from a tree over the road when we went & one of the locals (thank goodness he was driving the road too) got out with his machete and knocked it down and some guys helped him move it to the side of the road, otherwise we would have been stuck there for a while. we packed a small backpack & cooler to take with us for a change of clothes/shoes, water, snacks, camera, etc. and then we were off! we figured this trip would take the whole day and we were right…we only got back to the hotel around 7 or so when the sun was setting so it was a full day trip, but so fun & worth it!

{map of maui: for the road to hana adventure we started in weilea beach and headed toward paia and then you drive the whole northern coastline toward a tiny town called hana to turn around & come back the same way. we read that you can continue on that road to get back to weilea that way, but that you need a 4×4, which we did not rent, and we didn’t want to risk getting stuck or fucking up the car}babymoon weilea beach resort maui hawaii

day 4

do: eat, relax, explore

eat: breakfast- cinnamon roll place, lunch- snacks on the beach, dinner- rock & brews in paia

we started the day with a sweet breakfast of cinnamon rolls the size of our faces from a little hole-in-the-wall that i read about on carrie bradshaw lied blog here, then we set off to a beautiful beach called makena in weilea near where we were staying to relax, layout & play in the waves (here is a cool 360 video of the cove where we shot some of the photos below!). after laying out for a few hours we went back to our hotel to nap and  shower & head out to a small surfer, hippie town ~30 minutes from weilea beach called paia. we passed through it the previous day on the road to hana and i had also read about how quaint it was so i knew i wanted to go back for dinner & to walk around a bit. dinner was delish as we sat outside on a patio to people watch and shared a burger and salad, then i got a famous ululani’s shaved ice for dessert…yum! by the time we were done eating most of the shops & boutiques were closed (this really was a small, sleepy, hippie town which was so cute) but there was one boutique still open where i was able to get a souvenir ring in the shape of a wave, which i still wear today as it reminds me of our babymoon & especially this special place.

day 5

do: frolick on the beach, lay out by the serenity infinity pool, drink mocktails, pack our bags, enjoy dinner & head home

eat: breakfast- the market near our resort in weilea, lunch- snacks by the serenity infinity pool, dinner- flatbread pizza company in paia

since this was our last day, we toggled between doing an “activity” or just having no plan and soaking up our time together, the resort and the beach and opted for the latter. to start our day we got up at sunrise to take some drone photos at weilea beach which was cool because no one was up yet so we had the whole stretch of sand to ourselves! then we headed off to breakfast nearby for smoothies & sandwiches and then we decided to go chill by our favorite pool at the resort until it was time to check out. even after check out, they held our bags and there was a “post check-out” area with showers and a waiting room so you didn’t have to leave the property or keep your belongings in the car until you had to go to the airport. we wrapped up pool time around 4 and headed back to paia to get pizza from the flatbread company for dinner and then had to head to the airport around 7ish. on the way to dinner i was getting the most horrible cramps of my life, they would come and go but i was uncomfortable the whole meal, not knowing what was going on. i was questioning if it was gas, contractions, etc. my mind was going wild thinking something could be wrong with the baby and we were about to get on a plane to travel home for ~12 hours, it was dreadful. by the time we got to the airport i could barely stand up straight and was cramping so bad i just wanted to get home. the whole plane ride was hell, i was squeezing dek’s arms and tears were rolling down my face but i tried to play it cool to not make the other guy next to me uncomfortable and also there was nothing to do at this point but ride it out…literally. we had 2 stops on our way back to dallas and at one of them i called my doctor describing my symptoms but of course, they wanted me to come in, which i did the next morning after we landed and turns out i had a urinary tract infection. i had never had one before, but seriously those cramps felt like the devil was inside me and it was horrible. the cramps went away after i got back to dallas, but at least all of that discomfort happened at the very tail end of our beautiful babymoon so i was able to enjoy everyday to its fullest. we had the best trip and i’m so glad we chose maui and where we stayed, it was a trip of a lifetime and one that will always be so special to me because it was our last vacation without baby and being parents. it was truly amazing!

i’m wrapping up week 36 of my pregnancy & coming to the realization that he could literally come into the world any day now. this is all out of my control and i’m trying my best to go-with-the-flow and be open-minded for when/how labor could happen. i’m finding peace in thinking of my mama friend’s who have had kids and just reminding myself that so many other women do this…i can do this! my belly is rock hard like a bowling ball and he’s still moving around (especially in the evenings) and hiccuping every day. getting up from sitting or getting out of bed is truly a struggle, it’s just hard to maneuver this extra large bump! his nursery is ready for him, decorated and filled with necessities, even though he will most likely be sleeping in a bassinet next to our bed for the first few weeks. a bassinet came with the uppababy vista stroller we bought and we got a bassinet stand that it clips onto so he will be near me when i will need to get up for feedings around the clock. i plan to breastfeed, but ya never know! we hope to introduce baby bottles ~a month in so that dek & other family members can experience feeding time and give me a break when needed. i am, day-by-day, adding things to my hospital bag & i’m 100% sure i’m overpacking but i’d rather take too much stuff and be overprepared than need that onnneee thing i didn’t bring. i’ll share what i’m packing in another post- i’ve gotten some great recommendations from friends which i am really thankful for. we are trying our best to “prepare” the doggies for baby’s arrival by using the word “baby” a lot and being in the nursery with them, letting them sniff everything new and also playing baby crying videos from youtube, which they don’t seem to care about yet, but i’m excited to see how they react to the real thing! this could possibly be my last “baby bumpdate” post as i have been doing these every 4 weeks (see previous ones here), so the next one would technically be at 40 weeks. we’ll see – wish me luck!

bohemian ethereal maternity photoshoot

last saturday at sunset dek & i met our photographer friend amy at arbor hills nature preserve & had a maternity photoshoot.

we hadn’t been in front of the camera together since our wedding almost 7 years ago (trip down memory lane here) & i felt a strong desire to capture these moments of our family before adding baby boy to the mix.

i wanted the vibe to feel bohemian & ethereal with a juxtaposition of us being dressed up in a natural environment. i shared my inspiration board with amy & she seriously captured us and the lighting sooooo spot on. the whole shoot took about an hour (this location lends itself to many different backdrops all within walking distance) and thankfully my sister came to help out with the doggies since we wanted them in a few shots with us too. i plan to print & frame a few for the nursery and for around the house. i love, love, love how they turned out!!!

let me know which one’s your fav in the comments below.

so i wore black & white stripes to jury duty yesterday….didn’t realize that probably wasn’t the best choice in style until i was there going through the metal detectors at the frank crowley courthouse. i didn’t get picked which i was kind of bummed about. actually, we were all dismissed after hours of waiting around as it seemed they reached an agreement or something. last time i was summoned for jury duty i was chosen & served on the jury for a criminal case for a whole week. it was fascinating and important for me to be all in & unbiased and i took it so seriously.

anyways, back to my fashion choice for the occasion – this tee shirt dress is the first real “maternity” dress i’ve bought as i usually just wear larger clothes or flowy things & this one just stretches in all the right places & is the perfect length! one lady at the courthouse even said i was camouflaging my baby bump well behind the stripes, ha! these footbed sandals are also a recent purchase because i can barely fit into my sandals. no joke, i’m swollen and puffy especially in my legs and feet and am just needing to slide my fat feet into anything comfortable these days.

baby boy is getting so big, i can feel him moving around so much and it’s weird to feel some “hard” spots on my stomach where i am assuming he is resting a foot or his little booty. i had my 34-week checkup this past monday & he’s tracking along fine, my weight is another story. i’ve gained about 50 pounds so far and still have 1+ month left which i try to not get so in my head about, but it’s been really hard for me to give up control of my body. i know i could be eating better, working out more, etc. but at this point, i am just determined to bring a healthy boy into this world and then whip my butt back into shape. i know it will take time and it’s not like i think that within a month or two i will be back to my “new normal,” but it’s a determination mindset that i’m working on. i’m telling myself that my goal will be to lose baby weight within 6-8 months as that’s how long it took to put it all on. to keep my body moving these days i walk in the evenings with dek & the pups, but taking long walks can make me feel so much pressure down there, so i just walk at a slower pace. the doctor said that if baby “drops,” which could be any day now, into my pelvis it will feel like a bowling ball in between my legs….can’t wait for that! ha. other than pressure, swollen/sore feet, and some spinal pain i feel overall pretty good. i’ve been describing my pregnancy to people lately as “claustrophobic in my own body” because at this point it feels like he’s invading my space and taking over inside of me. we love him so much already though & can’t wait to have him in this world and in our family. i’m finishing decorating and putting things in their place in the nursery after receiving so many sweet gifts & baby clothes from friends/family from our baby shower last weekend & i can’t wait to share the “nursey reveal” before & after with you guys!

baby boy & i had a shower this weekend with friends and family and i was completely overwhelmed by all of the love and the amount of detail put into making it so beautiful and perfect. it was seriously the bohemian baby shower of my dreams! i’m now 34 weeks preggers (for previous posts about my #bumpdates click here) and it was the perfect time to have this shower. i have a pretty significant baby belly but am not to the point where i am too uncomfortable to walk or anything, so the timing was on point. a few months ago my sister/best friends/tribe asked me what vibe i wanted & what some of my favorite things were to eat, etc. & they just took it from there! i told them i wanted to keep it simple and slightly bohemian, not overly “babyish” & they went above & beyond! the invitations were perfection, simple with a touch of greenery…down to the handwritten mailing addresses (dekel thought it was spam when it came in the mail because my friend marli’s handwriting is so pretty he thought it was a stamp!!!) the shower itself was at my friend katelin’s house & from the moment i walked in i was blown away! there was garland hanging from doorways, beautiful balloons, blue hydrangeas, take-home succulent shower gifts for all of the guests, a buffet spread that made my mouth water with all of my cravings & favorite foods, endless grapefruit juice, chilled topo chico, a mantle that boasted handmade decorated wooden letters by my friend chelsey and all of my favorite people under one roof. my mom also brought my baby book so we could flip through and reminisce. we ate and then took a quiz on how well everyone knew me & my pregnancy, which was really fun! it was a dream baby shower & such a special day, i’m so thankful to have so many people who love me and my family & who are excited to meet baby boy soon!

week 32 pregnancy bumpdate

week 32 is in full swing & i am feelin’ it with suuuuper swollen ankles and legs. my legs are water-logged, ya’ll. my calves don’t even jiggle anymore, they are hard as rocks & my feet only fit into slider sandals, it’s a liiiiittle redic. we went to our 32-week appointment this week and we asked if the numbness and tingling in my legs is normal and they said “normal” goes out the door during pregnancy, so there’s that. they said that baby is measuring right on track and probably weighing about 4.5 pounds. we had an ultrasound & saw some sonogram photos but, to be honest, he looked like a little ghost on the screen. i couldn’t really make out his face or body very well, but it’s fine because we only have a few more weeks until we meet him! i’m getting so excited (and nervous) about his arrival. like when will my water break, where will i be, will it be embarrassing, etc. and then the whole birth thing still reallllyyy freaks me out but there’s no turning back now! we are registered at the hospital and are planning on getting a tour of the maternity wing next weekend which should calm my nerves a bit. finding things that fit is becoming more and more challenging, even dresses that fit a few weeks ago don’t go over my belly, so it’s a daily struggle, but carrying him is such a privilege and i can’t wait to feel the love when he enters the world and makes us parents.

week 28 pregnancy bumpdate buffalo exchange blue splatter dress

week 28 of my pregnancy is coming to an end and i’m officially in the 3rd trimester, which is nuts! (see previous pregnancy bumpdates from week 17 here, week 20 here & week 24 here) signs that i’m in the 3rd trimester are charlie horses, i’m getting them like every other day right when i wake up and stretch my legs, which is soooo annoying & painful. another thing i’m experiencing is losing sensation in my legs and if i sit on my knees to play with the dogs, even for a few minutes, my legs start tingling and it’s hard to get up. also, my ankles and feet are already starting to swell- i could really tell today in my sandals, my ankles had little fat rolls. at the doctor today for my 28-week checkup i had to drink a super sweet, nasty room-temperature, flat drink, wait an hour and then get blood drawn to test for a gestational diabetes test. supposedly pregnant women are susceptible to getting this, as the hormones from the placenta can block the action of the mother’s insulin in her body…or something like that. our families do not have a history of diabetes, so i’m hoping the results come back negative, but if the test comes back inconclusive, i’ll need to go back, drink that disgusting drink again (!) and then wait 3 hours and get tested again, so please keep your fingers crossed for me! after our doctor appointment dekel & i went to chick-fil-a because i’ve been craving chicken minis soooo bad! i got a 4-piece meal and then went back for 4 more #noshame. dek got back from a 10-day trip to israel yesterday & it feels so good to have him back, it felt like an eternity this time. he’s gone back to visit family & friends before but it felt different this time, like a bigger piece of my heart was missing. i really missed my partner and cuddle buddy, peanut only let me cuddle him so much- ha!

week 24 pregnancy baby bumpdate

i’m 24 weeks preggers & time is flying by! (see week 17 here & week 20 here) i feel like my bump tripled in size in the last month and is now totes poppin’. i’ve swollen up in a lot of areas besides just my tummy & this has helped keep my legs from rubbing together when i wear dresses (which is every day!) and keep the bump supported. before i bought it, i was wearing dekel’s boxers- ha! baby boy is the size of a cantaloupe this week, which is funny because i’ve been eating cold cantaloupe like crazy for the past 3 weeks. he’s definitely moving around in there, i feel him every day, mostly at night. it’s like a little internal pressure feeling but when dek puts his hand on my stomach he can feel the slight twitches too and it’s so fun to feel him. we got back from our #babymoon in maui, hawaii which was uhhhmaazing! i plan to write a whole post on it to include all the deets, but it was seriously one of our favorite splurgy vacations to-date & i’m so glad we decided to go just the two of us before growing our little family, we spent so much quality time together and made such fun memories. last weekend we had a mini garage sale to get rid of some crap around the house that we didn’t need and more importantly to clear out the nursery so we could get started on building it. we got this crib & this rug from target to start with and now it’s about hanging wall art and placing decor, which i have tons of from working at at home. the next big things on our list to buy in preparation of baby arrival are some sort of bassinet or sleeper for our room since he will most likely sleep in there with us for a few months & like a stroller, car seat, etc. – what else do i need?! i’ll share a before/after of the nursery once it’s done, it’s fun to be creating a new room in our home and i love walking in there or walking past it and seeing the crib, knowing baby boy will soon be with us. it’s still so nuts to me i’m pregnant!
