i was invited to try piada‘s spring/summer menu this week & how could i resist! they are known for being “italian street food” and their concept is simple- you can choose right off the menu, customize anything you want or build your own creation in a bowl or a piada, which is an italian flatbread. i’ve been to piada before, it’s right by my work so it’s easy to stop by for lunch or have it delivered & it’s so yummy! i usually opt for the same thing which is the crispy chicken blt piada, but after trying the summer avocado piada – i’m hooked! it has pancetta, avocado, arugula, basil aioli, mozzarella, sweet corn and baby tomatoes in it & it was TDF! such a good, fresh combination and overall it was light but filling. we also got to try their sweet corn salad, summer power bowl, farmer’s market salad (which was surprisingly good even though i don’t typically like strawberries and tomatoes in a salad together!) and their delicious berry hibiscus lemonade, which they make in-house.

forever 21 black duster pecan lodge deep ellum

this past weekend was so fun! dek & i spent friday night watching the two latest episodes of handmaid’s tales season 2…which is SO good. freaky, but good. i enjoyed the show with some butter popcorn & truffle salt from trader joe’s that i was gifted for christmas from a co-worker, i love it on popcorn!

saturday dek & i went on our run/jog at the park together and then had some people come over to give us quotes for updating our kitchen cabinets & countertops. our kitchen is the one room we didn’t touch when we moved in and it’s not like we have to change anything, it’s really functional and fine, but it would be nice to give it a facelift as i’m pretty sure the cabinets and countertops are original to the home. they’re just plain white and an update with marble-looking quartz and some new cabinet doors/drawers…maybe even with those soft-close drawer slides would be really nice, since we have an open floor plan so it’s highly visible from our entryway and living room & we spend a lot of time in this room. if we end up doing any work i will be sure to document and let you know who we use! we didn’t do much else that day besides yard work (well, that was dekel…i laid out in the sun and supervised) and dinner with mom at on the border. i passed out around 9 & man it felt good to sleep so much!

then, on sunday my mom, sister, dek & i braved the anticipated long line at pecan lodge and headed down to deep ellum again (we were there last weekend, too) because we really wanted to try their brisket. they’ve been featured on diners, drive-in’s & dives and also scored the #2 position in texas monthly in 2014 for “the 50 best bbq joints in the world” & it definitely was some of the best around! the line to get in was wrapped around the building when we arrived at 10:50 (they open at 11) so my mom held our spot in line while dek & i went to shoot some outfit photos around the corner. when we got back my mom had advanced but we still weren’t even at the front door. we received a recommendation to go inside to the express line (where there was no wait) to order 5 lbs. of meat. since we were 4 people and all wanted brisket we thought that would be a good idea so we could have leftovers for dinner/lunch the next day, so that is what we did & i would recommend doing so if you’re in a big group because we ordered and grabbed a table on the patio in less than 10 minutes. by the time we were done eating the lady that had been in front of us in line was just coming to sit down.

def go to the “express line” if you are going to be ordering at least 5 lbs. of meat and can all agree on what kind, it was so quick!

leave it to preggers to carry over the 5 lb. plate full of meat, ha! i was so excited to try this place!

this is what 5 lbs of brisket, extra pickles, mac & cheese (with bacon!), fried okra and rolls looks like.

the slices were extra thick so we only ended up eating about 1.5 each and had plennnnttyyy of leftovers to take home.

in the spirit of st.patricks day coming up and the fact that there will be a massive parade on lower greenville ave i wanted to share some photos of a brunch outing dek & i had at halcyon a few weekends back, it doesn’t hurt that i was wearing green here either 😉

we had been to the cafe brazil that had been on this corner of greenville & goodwin before but were intrigued by this new place…even the name was hard to decipher! turns out it’s a coffee shop, brunch spot, and cocktail lounge all in one and has been open for about a year, according to the dallas observer. the vibe is modern and retro with exposed brick and lots of light shining through the massive windows. we sat at the bar facing the street to people watch & the food really was tasty. we had a great time in the cool setting, it felt hustle-bustle with neighborhood people coming in & out to pick up takeout orders, families coming in with kiddos, couples, etc. –  we would definitely go back & next time when it’s warmer out so we can enjoy the patio!

we were there early enough that greenville was pretty empty (check out the 2nd photo below) so we took advantage & i got a few #ootd shots. this sweater is oversized, slouchy & super comfortable, it’s from a brand called kaisely and i borrowed it from my sister, my ripped distressed jeans are from a marshall’s shopping trip when i was in vegas with my mom & sister last year for my best friend’s birthday, last seen here & i kept the look very casual with some white sneakers from target.

happy monday friends! hope you had a wonderful weekend & got to relax, have some fun, catch up on your shows, get outside, etc. i did all of the above!

it started on friday night with a scavenger hunt on lower greenville avenue hosted by lowest greenville collective where we went around to different participating restaurants and retailers in search of a hidden token, once you found the 2-inch laminated “G” (for greenville) you would tell the staff and they would stamp your card and if you made it to all places, checked all the boxes and shared on social you were entered to win tickets to a comedy show at the new four-day weekend venue on greenville. i didn’t end up winning, but it was still fun to walk around with dek and visit some places we had never been to before.

on saturday dek & i went to the apple store on knox so he could replace his 2-year old iphone battery. we made a brunch date out of it and headed to taverna (where sean lowe was eating at the table next to us!!!!) while they fixed it. i wore this buffalo exchange dress as a skirt & got so many compliments on it! it has no label so i’ll never know where it came, but i know it’s a piece i’ll wear over & over. it’s the perfect length and what drew me to it originally was the emerald green color and fun pattern, not to mention the price…it was like $18! it was a little chilly that morning (i’m such a wuss) at 65 degrees so i wore it as a skirt with my trusty ‘ol h&m jean jacket buttoned up over it. i felt very “me” in this outfit and was so inspired by it that i made another trip to buffalo exchange after brunch to load up on some more special ‘one-of-a-kind’ finds. it was the first day in a while where it was actually warm in the afternoon & got up to 80 degrees here in dallas so after solo-shopping i met up with my sister & we took our dogs to breckenridge park to walk for a bit and then after got a sweet icy treat of bahama bucks. i got watermelon & coconut with their sour sand sprinkled on top & it was sooooo good!

then on sunday we did yoga with dogs at mutts cantina. it was nuts, completely chaotic but so much fun and so entertaining. i went with my mom (her dog ollie), my sister (her pup tucker) & we met our friend lauren there (with her pup finn). kaiser was in heaven! he was worn out by the end of it all but probably could have stayed to play for hours. he’s still a puppy & we’re still training him to obey, not pull on the leash, etc. so he was wild running around & giving unsolicited kisses. we all got so dirty that baths were mandatory once we got home. kaiser doesn’t really like being bathed but he’ll do anything for treats so that’s how i lured him in 😉 see our pic from doggie yoga here.

it was dek’s birthday yesterday so we went out to celebrate! mirelle found this cool-looking place called the royale via a food blogger she follows on instagram and since one of dek’s favorite foods is burgers & beer we knew he would love it…and it did not disappoint! they also had extravagant milkshakes that we wanted to try. win win.

majorly drool-worthy grub that tasted as good as it looks.

i’ve been looking for a cute pair of black jeans without holes in them for a while now, don’t get me wrong, i looovvvve a good distressed detail but this weather has me wanting to cover every inch of my body. i found these beauties from zara the other day while shopping with my sister & they won me over. snug to the body, a little high-waisted, which i like, and with that special black-on-black embroidered embellishment, i couldn’t pass them up.

yesterday dek got home from work relatively early, around 4, and instead of heating up the leftovers we had in the fridge…we put on our heavy coats, braved the cold and went out to haystack, a cute little burger place in the shopping center right by our house. it was an impromptu date night and a great reason to wear my new pants. i paired them with an oversized pale pink sweater (it’s mirelle’s) & tan suede boots that i scored for $20 in a vintage shop when we were in LA.

this past week dek & i had the privilege to attend a menu tasting at one of our favorite restaurants, modern market. they’re food is always so fresh, you can really taste the quality. they “cook using simple, whole ingredients purchased from farmers, ranchers and suppliers who use sustainable practices” and that is a motto i can rally behind. i honestly order online and pick up lunch from there probably 2x/month when i have busy days at work and haven’t meal prepped (there’s a location right by where i work in a brand new shopping center in richardson called cityline), but i always order the same thing…the pulled pork banh mi sandwich with a side of mac & cheese (which is the bomb, by the way!) so this was a great opportunity for me to try some of their new & exciting menu items that i would probably never order, but definitely will now…like the curry salmon & maple glazed brussels sprouts.

below is a video dek helped me create, it’s one of the first ones we’ve made – let us know what you think!!

(i looovveee curry, this was the perfect combo of light and sweet)

which one of these would you want to try?

this past friday i returned home from a 2-day work trip to kansas city where i went with the whole marketing team that i am on to meet with a new agency partner of ours. there were like 12 of us traveling together and while the trip was short it felt like it lasted a lot longer than it did!  those 12-hour days are no joke, plus the freezing weather didn’t help. it was fun but intense, so when i landed friday i drove straight home, changed into “comfy clothes” & spent the evening doing nothing but chillin’ with dek, cuddling on the couch sipping champagne.

on saturday, i toggeled between being a hermit crab, staying in & doing nothing again or putting on my face and facing the world to be social. i went with the latter. it started with mirelle’s text at 8 am wanting to hang out, then molly’s phone call (greenville ave. was where she was headed & wanted us to come with her), then i texted my friend jules who i knew was in town from fort worth and who i have been wanting to see, then my mom texted us, then lauren texted. it was funny how it snowballed into a random day of fun with great people and good laughs! we met up at greenville ave. pizza company & were hungry so, duh! we had some delicious pizza. i always go for the same thing, green olives + feta, but when molly said she was ordering the pesto schiutto, i was all in. it’s pesto sauce, prosciutto, roma tomatoes, arugula, garlic, sun dried tomatoes, pizza crack (their homemade seasoning that is addicting as crack!) and parmesan. everything i love, but on a pizza. it was sooooooo good!

cheers at Greenville Avenue Pizza company

the “wall paper” in the restaurants is not paper at all, its a hand-painted work of art!! along with their storefront signs. look closely next time you are in, it’s amazing. also, they just opened a new location at 1145 peavy rd in east dallas, if that’s your ‘hood you’re in luck!

after lunch, we we went walking around and into this super cute shop right across the street from bullzerk called the merchant. they have great giftables, coffee table books, tea towels, candles and beautiful i-want-to-touch-and-smell-and-pick-everything-up merchandising displays. definitely check them out if you are in the area!

another pit stop we made was to joy macaroons, it’s the perfect place to grab a sweet treat post-lunch. the others in my group didn’t get anything but i got butter pecan and pistachio and ate them both…in under 1 minute. the pistachio was surprisingly my favorite of the two but there are so many flavors to choose from – you can even get a macaroon ice cream sandwich, which we often do in the summer.
