this past weekend was so fun! dek & i spent friday night watching the two latest episodes of handmaid’s tales season 2…which is SO good. freaky, but good. i enjoyed the show with some butter popcorn & truffle salt from trader joe’s that i was gifted for christmas from a co-worker, i love it on popcorn!
saturday dek & i went on our run/jog at the park together and then had some people come over to give us quotes for updating our kitchen cabinets & countertops. our kitchen is the one room we didn’t touch when we moved in and it’s not like we have to change anything, it’s really functional and fine, but it would be nice to give it a facelift as i’m pretty sure the cabinets and countertops are original to the home. they’re just plain white and an update with marble-looking quartz and some new cabinet doors/drawers…maybe even with those soft-close drawer slides would be really nice, since we have an open floor plan so it’s highly visible from our entryway and living room & we spend a lot of time in this room. if we end up doing any work i will be sure to document and let you know who we use! we didn’t do much else that day besides yard work (well, that was dekel…i laid out in the sun and supervised) and dinner with mom at on the border. i passed out around 9 & man it felt good to sleep so much!
then, on sunday my mom, sister, dek & i braved the anticipated long line at pecan lodge and headed down to deep ellum again (we were there last weekend, too) because we really wanted to try their brisket. they’ve been featured on diners, drive-in’s & dives and also scored the #2 position in texas monthly in 2014 for “the 50 best bbq joints in the world” & it definitely was some of the best around! the line to get in was wrapped around the building when we arrived at 10:50 (they open at 11) so my mom held our spot in line while dek & i went to shoot some outfit photos around the corner. when we got back my mom had advanced but we still weren’t even at the front door. we received a recommendation to go inside to the express line (where there was no wait) to order 5 lbs. of meat. since we were 4 people and all wanted brisket we thought that would be a good idea so we could have leftovers for dinner/lunch the next day, so that is what we did & i would recommend doing so if you’re in a big group because we ordered and grabbed a table on the patio in less than 10 minutes. by the time we were done eating the lady that had been in front of us in line was just coming to sit down.

the line from the inside, it continued outside & wrapped around the building!
def go to the “express line” if you are going to be ordering at least 5 lbs. of meat and can all agree on what kind, it was so quick!
leave it to preggers to carry over the 5 lb. plate full of meat, ha! i was so excited to try this place!
this is what 5 lbs of brisket, extra pickles, mac & cheese (with bacon!), fried okra and rolls looks like.
the slices were extra thick so we only ended up eating about 1.5 each and had plennnnttyyy of leftovers to take home.
thanks for reading – have a wonderful week!
