finest playa mujeres review & recap

my family & i just returned from a 5-night stay at finest playa mujeres in cancun, mexico. the last time we were in cancun was when atlas was a 9-month-old baby!!! now he’s almost 3 years old & even HE was looking forward to this trip and it was so cool to experience it through his eyes. honestly one of the best trips we’ve ever been on!

my husband, two young boys (almost 1 + 3 years old), mom and sister traveled together from dallas, tx & met my brother from new york and his sweet girlfriend there. we were looking forward to hanging out & enjoying all of the amenities this luxurious 5-star resort had to offer, especially the beautiful beach & each other’s company!

if you’re thinking of heading to cancun, mexico…you should add this place to your list. finest playa mujeres caters to adults-only with the excellence club, which grants you access to adults-only pools, restaurants and even a complimentary aqua hydrotherapy spa treatment (which we got to do too and was sooooo cool!) and a private romantic dinner for two. my brother and his girlfriend stayed in this section of the resort and dek & i definitely would have too if we didn’t have kids. excellence club is connected to finest resort, but separated by “adults only” areas, so we all felt together but not right next door. finest playa mujeres is also super accommodating for families and kiddos of ALL ages so it was really nice with both young boys to feel so taken care of. they brought cribs, a bottle sterilizer, a high chair and a baby monitor to the room to help make our stay more comfortable. there was a wide range of daily activities to keep kids (& parents!) entertained, like early morning bike tours to lunchtime guacamole-making classes and beachside mud baths and hat painting. while dek & i specifically didn’t attend many of those activities since we have little ones that nap in the middle of the day, we did go to the nightly shows that were at around 7:30 each evening, which atlas loved! there was a disney one that was interactive with bubbles the kids could run around and catch & another night there was a puppet show. the resort even has an app so you can set reminders for activities you want to attend so you don’t miss out on stuff. trust me, you won’t regret booking a stay here! every little detail is amazing.

our room:

we booked the junior swim-up suite & i’m so glad we did! it was so much fun to walk out to a semi-private balcony with a hammock and pool to play in when one or both kids napped…or in my case, all three boys napped, ha!

food & drinks:

there are lots of options for dining around the resort and the food and drinks are great! download the resort’s app & that way you can easily check when bars/restaurants open and also peep the menus ahead of time. they have some amazing, fresh cocktails…try the watermelon martinis & frozen mango margaritas- yum!

we loved grabbing coffee & ice cream every day from the sweet corner

the best breakfast, in my opinion, was from the market kitchen. it’s the main buffet hall in the lobby & there are sooo many options for fresh-squeezed juice, yogurts with granola, tropical fruit, sweet bread, rolls, create-your-own omelets and more. with the two littles, it was great to be able to go back & get whatever you want when you want it. we also had breakfast at duke’s, an outdoor terrace overlooking the main pool but it took longer & was a little toastier because you sit outside.

breakfast at duke’s

street-style tacos paired with frozen mango margaritas

ice-cold coconuts from 12-4 at the tropical juice bar

fresh AF watermelon martini from the golden bar in the main lobby

one of my favorite dishes of the trip was from brass steakhouse in the main lobby of the resort. they had this tomato “pisto” soup with marjoram & lemon oil…no pic, but it was DIVINE!

surf & turf

the resort:

everywhere you looked, it was beautiful! the grounds were pristine, there were palm trees galore & iguanas at almost every turn. just magical!

the main pool & aqua bar

kid’s club at finest playa mujeres was so cool!

the beach:

the beach was beautiful! we were not really bothered by seaweed on the beach or in the water. there was some, but not much at all & a tractor guy came to sweep the sand every morning.

the resort offers unmotorized water sports free of charge, so dek did stand-up paddleboarding, then he took atlas out on a kayak with my sister (how adorable!), then my mom held aero for a nap on the beach and my sister, brother and brother’s gf teamed up to play with atlas so dek and i could go out for a bit on a mini catamaran sailboat.

that’s dek way out there paddleboarding!!!

atlas’s first kayak experience

aero tried to eat the sand when we would let him down, so we would mostly play with him on the lounge chairs & entertain him with snacks and new toys

mini trucks on the beach provided endless entertainment

beach trip summary:

what made this trip so special for us was having our family around to make those memories with us! it was so fun to be all together for a few magical days in cancun. and as challenging as it is to travel with two littles, we felt catered to and pampered throughout our entire stay, everyone was so kind and helpful – we highly recommend this resort in playa mujeres!
